Our Story
Teddy’s Tallow Balm was born out of a family’s search for answers.
For the Horvath family, everyday life became unexpectedly complicated when Teddy began experiencing allergies and autoimmune reactions at a young age. Foods that most families trusted, along with common personal care products, started to raise serious concerns. What should have been simple — eating, bathing, moisturizing — became a daily challenge of reading labels and questioning ingredients.
At first, the focus was on food. We began eliminating artificial additives, preservatives, and highly processed ingredients from Teddy’s diet. Slowly, we saw positive changes. But the journey didn’t stop there.
We soon realized that the same concern applied to skincare and personal care products. Soaps, lotions, and balms contained long ingredient lists filled with chemicals we couldn’t pronounce and didn’t fully understand. If we were being careful about what went into Teddy’s body, why weren’t we just as careful about what went onto his skin?
That question changed everything.
We started researching traditional, time-tested skincare ingredients — the kinds of simple materials people relied on long before modern cosmetics existed. That’s when we rediscovered tallow. Used for centuries as a natural skin salve, tallow closely resembles the oils found in healthy human skin. Combined with extra virgin olive oil and beeswax, it created something beautifully simple and incredibly effective.
What began as a homemade balm for Teddy quickly became something our whole family relied on. Dry skin improved. Irritation calmed. And most importantly, we felt confident knowing exactly what was in every jar.
Friends and family began asking for it. Then neighbors. Then customers of Teddy’s Tallow Chips — the food brand we had built from the same belief in honest ingredients and traditional methods.
